Steven R. Ames, MS, CFP®, EA, the principal of the firm, has been in practice for 22 years, and has been a member of the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA), the foremost professional association for "fee-only" financial advisors for over fifteen years; where he has served as its local Region’s President and Chair, as well as on numerous committees. He has been referenced in the September, 1996-2002 issues of "Worth" and the October, 2001 and September, 2002 issues of "Mutual Funds" magazine, and in the 2002 edition of J. K. Lasser's "New Rules For Estate and Tax Planning". His biography is also currently listed in "Who’s Who in America" .
Mr. Ames has been quoted on numerous occasions in the financial press; including the "Wall Street Journal", "Kiplinger’s Personal Finance", "Money", "Mutual Funds", "Newsweek", "USA Today", "New York Times", "Washington Post", the Annapolis "Capital", and "The Street.com". He has also had television appearances on NBC News’ "Dateline NBC" and CNBC’s "The Money Club", in features on financial planning for retirement.
He has also written a personal finance column for the Annapolis "Capital" newspaper and "Annapolis Lifestyle" magazine and served as an adjunct faculty member of the Anne Arundel Community College for 10 years.
Mr. Ames holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Maryland and American University, respectively. He is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ practitioner (CFP®), holds a Master’s Degree from the College For Financial Planning, and is also enrolled to practice before the IRS as an "Enrolled Agent" (EA).
Active in his local community, he has served as President of the Kiwanis Club of Annapolis, Treasurer of the Annapolis Boys and Girls Club, and past board member of the Greater Annapolis Chamber of Commerce and the Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts. He also serves on the Anne Arundel Medical Center Foundation's Charitable Gift Planning Advisory Committee, and the Chesapeake Community Foundation's Finance and Asset Management Committee.
